Looking into Employee Well-being More Meaningfully than Ever Before

Date:

Although the human arsenal has always been tilted towards the loaded end, it still hasn’t seen anything more significant than our desire to improve at a consistent pace. We say this because the stated desire has already fetched the world some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a rather unique member of the group. The reason why technology’s credentials are so anomalous is purposed around its skill-set, which was unprecedented enough to realize all the possibilities for us that we couldn’t have imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, a closer look should be able to reveal how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component was, in fact, what gave the creation a spectrum-wide presence and made it the ultimate centerpiece of every horizon. Now, having such a powerful tool run the show did expand our experience in many different directions, but even after reaching so far ahead, this prodigious concept called technology will somehow continue to produce the right goods. The same has grown to become a lot more evident in recent times, and assuming one new HRM-themed development pans out just like we envision, it will only propel that trend towards greater heights over the near future and beyond.

Alight, a leading cloud-based human capital and technology services provider, has officially announced a partnership with Socially Determined, a social risk data and analytics company that helps organizations manage risk and improve outcomes, to transform the current employee well-being landscape. According to certain reports, the core idea here is to help employers better predict unmet needs at the individual-level. Once those forthcoming needs have been identified, the partners will deliver a framework for businesses to improve the relevance of their efforts by customizing content, benefits, and engagement tactics available to educate, support, and guide employees. Such personalization, in turn, should pave the way for greater employee engagement across the board. Next up, having Socially Determined’s social risk data is expected to enhance outcomes across four main pillars of well-being i.e. body, mind, wallet, and life. Talk about how that will happen, the partnership in question will realize the same through dispatching of all the barriers to accessing care, while simultaneously providing resources which are contextualized by those proverbial social risks. We referred to employers being given a chance to better predict their workforce’s unmet needs; the actionable strategy to achieve it is rooted in ensuring community-level SDOH risk exposure, as well as employee-specific social risk factors.

But what makes the two companies we have here the ideal candidates to take on an initiative of this sort? Let’s start with Socially Determined, founded in 2017, the company’s rise to prominence stems from an ability to quantify and visualize SDOH and social risk exposure at an industry-leading degree of granularity and precision. Mind you, there are companies who are doing a similar work of projecting social risk exposure, but so far, their focus has just been on county or zip code-level data. Socially Determined, on its part, leverages a 200-meter unit of analysis, thus quantifying SDOH risk for over 42 million distinct geographic units nationwide. These insights, at present, stretch across seven distinct domains, including economic climate, food landscape, housing environment, transportation network, health literacy, digital landscape and social connectedness. Moving on to its individual-level social risk factor scores, here also the company sets itself apart by incorporating point locations for individuals based on home address rather than relying on county or zip-code-derived aggregates. The individual focus helps Socially Determined more effectively understand issues like financial strain, food insecurity, housing instability, transportation barriers, and health literacy challenges.

“Socially Determined’s unique, data-driven, analytics-first approach to quantifying and visualizing community-level SDOH and individual-level social risk factors creates a holistic, actionable and inclusive environment for employers by empowering them to visualize and understand SDOH risk exposure and social care support needs for their employees – in real-time, at scale, and at an industry-leading degree of resolution,” said Trenor Williams, chief executive officer and co-founder of Socially Determined. “We chose to exclusively collaborate with Alight in the employer market because of its reach and scale along with its engagement capabilities within the Worklife platform.”

Alight’s case, on the other hand, is made by a leading cloud-based human capital technology, which it uses to facilitate confident health, wealth and wellbeing decisions for 36 million people and dependents. While the company’s platform is already generating personalized data-driven health, wealth, pay and wellbeing insights, this partnership will bolster its understanding, as far as social determinants of health are concerned.

“Socially Determined’s capabilities will enhance Alight’s hi-tech, hi-touch solutions and services, including its health navigation and clinical services offerings, by helping to close critical gaps in care and addressing healthcare literacy,” said Bipin Mistry, chief medical officer at Alight. “Coupling the data from Socially Determined with Alight’s benefit administration, payroll, retiree and wealth data through the Alight Worklife platform will enable Alight’s clients to truly see and care for the whole person.”
